The Three Weapons of Fencing
Fencing is a sport of strategy and precision. Each of its three primary disciplines is defined by a unique weapon, target area, and set of rules that guide the flow of the duel.
A light thrusting weapon. Points are scored with the tip exclusively on the torso target area, following a tactical 'Right of Way' priority system.
Foil
The heaviest weapon, derived from traditional dueling swords. The entire body is a valid target area, and points are awarded directly to whoever lands the hit first.
Epee
Sabre
A lightning-fast cutting and thrusting weapon. The target area includes everything from the waist up. Like foil, sabre uses specific priority rules to determine scoring.
THE ANATOMY OF PERFORMANCE
